Fund-Raising Events
SAHLA tries to holds two fund raisers each year to provide money for our educational projects.  The Coordinating Chairman for these events is Jean James, owner of Capers.  General questions can be answered by sending her an e-mail at jean@capersdmc.com

Golf Events – Hospitality and golf go hand-in-hand

Not only do we enjoy the game and the fellowship, we use our events as a means of raising money for our educational projects, scholarship programs, with a small portion going to our PAC fund.  We are currently involved in two separate events if you would like to be involved, contact our Chair: Tony Pitkin, Scott Equipment E-Mail tpitkin@satx.rr.com

Twilight League – 9 holes of golf played after work several times each month (May through September), great for networking, entertaining a client and just enjoying the game before the sun goes down. Watch our site to find out when the 2010 league will begin.

Annual Golf Tournament – usually held in the fall with many extra features added to make it a great education fund-raiser and a “not to be missed”  evening event with a fantasic meal, prizes, auction items and drawings.

Note: In 2010 our second fund raiser was planned as a summer event unfortunately we found that this time-frame is too filled with families and weddings to get the particiation we need.  We will be regrouping to determine what type of event will work best for our membership.  Stay tuned for a new event in 2011.

Governmental Affairs – members of the Association working behind the scenes to keep our elected officials informed on our industry.  Each member of the committee is assigned a number of our elected officials to keep in touch with them on a personal level and make sure that they are informed on those issues that are of concern to our local industry. During an election year, we will stage debates and hold receptions to help our members understand the issues and are given an opportunity to personally meet the candidates.

An reception - "Salute to Our Legislators" - now held on alternate years has been going on for the past fourteen years to provide a forum for our membership to network with elected officials and members of City Staff and giving them a unique opportunity for a one-on-one exchange to visit and thank these individuals for their efforts on behalf of our industry. It is also a means of opening the door for personal contact between members and officials in case they may require assistance on a personal matter in the future. This is a very popular event. it is attended not only by the majority of our officials but their spouses!.

Note:  We have become very involved in our local political scene by holding receptions and forums for candidates running for office at the city and county level.  This provides our members with a closer look at their potential representatives in governement positions that affect their businesses and their community.  These election cycles also fall in the same year as the Legislative Sessions in Austin; having our Bexar County delegation tied up in Austin reduces the number of state representative we can pull in to attend the Salute Reception.  This new alternate plan seems to be a better method to reach out to our officials on a continuing basis.

Carola Broaddus, San Antonio Visitor's Souvenir Map, is the chair of the Governmental Affairs Committee and our PAC Fund; her email is  sasouvenirmap@att.net

Membership is our bread and butter! We are always looking for new businesses to join our ranks. This is a full 12 month a year project and always needs more manpower to bring in new people.  Jack Broaddus is the chair of this committee, his email is Texasreservations@att.net

Hotel Security Network –  Through fax and emails, hotel Front Desk and Security personnel are alerted to possible criminal situations that may cause on-site harm or injury.  A 59-page Security Reference Guide containing tips, suggestions and a list of local support phone numbers can be downloaded right from this website.  Sign up forms are also included. Additional information can be obtained by calling our office 558-6565 or by email: sahla@sbcglobal.net
