 Programs and Projects

SAHLA is an extremely active organization with year-round activities and events. Our committee chairs are always looking for new SAHLA members to step up to the plate and get involved through one of our committees.  An e-mail contract or a phone number is included in every category listed.

Angel  Buys Project: Donated room nights, amusement and entertainment tickets and other items are offered to the general public on our website to raise funds to support local charities and their efforts to improve the quality of life in our community.  (Sale: June - December)  The Angel Buys Program Co-Chairs: Bill Petrella, General Manager of the Westin Riverwalk and Jean James, Capers DMC.

If you have questions or would like to participate in the program, please call our office 210-558-6565 or email: Amanda@SAHLA.org

GOLF EVENTS

Not only do we enjoy the game and the fellowship, we use our events as a means of raising money for our educational projects, scholarship programs, with a small portion going to our PAC fund.  We are currently involved in two separate events if you would like to be involved, contact our Chair: Tony Pitkin, Scott Equipment E-Mail tpitkin@satx.rr.com

Twilight League – 9 holes of golf played after work several times each month (May through September), great for networking, entertaining a client and just enjoying the game before the sun goes down. Watch our site to find out when the league will begin.
Annual Golf Tournament – usually held in the fall with many extra features added to make it a great education fund-raiser and a “not to be missed”  evening event with a fantasic meal, prizes, auction items and drawings.

Governmental Affairs – members of the Association working behind the scenes to keep our elected officials informed on our industry.  Each member of the committee is assigned a number of our elected officials to keep in touch with them on a personal level and make sure that they are informed on those issues that are of concern to our local industry. During an election year, we will stage debates and hold receptions to help our members understand the issues and are given an opportunity to personally meet the candidates.

A reception - "Salute to Our Legislators" - now held on alternate years has been going on for the past fourteen years to provide a forum for our membership to network with elected officials and members of City Staff and giving them a unique opportunity for a one-on-one exchange to visit and thank these individuals for their efforts on behalf of our industry. It is also a means of opening the door for personal contact between members and officials in case they may require assistance on a personal matter in the future. This is a very popular event. it is attended not only by the majority of our officials but their spouses!.

Carola Broaddus, San Antonio Visitor's Souvenir Map, is the chair of the Governmental Affairs Committee and our PAC Fund; her email is  sasouvenirmap@att.net.

Membership is our bread and butter! We are always looking for new businesses to join our ranks. This is a full 12 month a year project and always needs more manpower to bring in new people.  Jack Broaddus is the chair of this committee, his email is Texasreservations@att.net. If you are interested in joining SAHLA, or have an interest in being on the membership committee, you may also call our office at 210-558-6565 or email Amanda@SAHLA.org.
